Communications

The troop tries to communicate with scout families and the community through various channels depending on scenario. The primary tool for tracking advancement and communications is Scoutbook -- it also uses email or texting to distribute communications. The unit also uses Discord for quick communications. Social media is only used for promotional materials. See below for details.

Scoutbook and Scouting Sites

When you register your scout, each parent will receive access to the scouts advancement record via Scoutbook, a tool provided by Scouting America. The website is used by the leaders and committee to send email and text communication to parents. If you need help setting up your account or have difficulty receiving these emails, please speak with a leader. If using Gmail, the emails will likely be automatically sorted unless you drag them to your primary inbox.

Website

Our website is one of our primary tools for promotion and we often send out emails linking to the website for additional information. The welcome and registration kits will be available on the website as well as online links to join our pack.

Discord for Chat and Announcements 

Discord is very similar to Slack or Microsoft Teams. It is a channel-based communication app and website. In addition to communicating via email, we are asking parents and scouts (13 years and older, with parent approval) to download the Discord app to facilitate better communications with scoutmasters, committee chair, other leaders, parents, and scouts within the unit. 

We will make announcements and send out info on Discord in addition to traditional email communications. Discord will allow us to send quick alerts and communicate in inclement weather, building closings, or other similar reasons.

Note that two deep leadership should be strictly followed in digital communications such as Discord just as in person. No adult shall contact a youth directly on our Discord server - all communication is done via channels.

We have a presence on Facebook as a “page”. You can like or follow our page to see our public promotional posts, typically used for recruiting and fundraising events. You can share these posts with friends.
